Voice
Set up telephony with Vonage
Use a Vonage Voice application for click-to-call and inbound routing as an alternative to Twilio.
Voice
Set up telephony with Vonage
Prefer Vonage? The voice channel speaks the Vonage Voice API too. Outbound calls are authenticated with a short-lived JWT signed by your application's private key.
What you need
- In the Vonage dashboard, create a Voice application.
- Note its Application ID and download the private key (a PEM file).
- Link a Vonage voice number to the application.
Connect it
- Open Admin → Telephony / Voice and choose Vonage.
- Enter your phone number, the Application ID, and paste the private key (PEM). The key is a masked secret.
- Save, then copy the Webhook URLs into your Vonage application's Answer URL and Event URL fields.
Test it
Use Test click-to-call to place a real call. On success the call is logged with its Vonage call UUID; on failure the log shows the API error so you can fix credentials quickly.
Tips
- Make sure the private key is the full PEM including the
-----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----header — signing fails silently otherwise (the test call will tell you). - Vonage numbers must be assigned to the same application whose key you pasted.
